A triptych of textile pieces for the Watermarks exhibition at Wakefield Cathedral.
I wanted a piece to echo the stained glass windows in Wakefield Cathedral and to take advantage of the light in the South Transept.
The three textile pieces were painted by three Wakefield-based groups on three canal journeys along the Aire and Calder Navigation in October 2023. The waveforms are based on a diagram showing the standing waves in a church organ pipe, specifically the first, third, and fifth eigenmodes.[1] Thanks to the groups – Spectrum People, Wakefield Well Women Centre, and Empath Action CIC
