In October 2025 I photographed and identified all 36 urban trees that line Fryston Road from Airedale Library to the junction with Airedale Road.
These photographs were the inspiration for a series of painting workshops with groups attending Tieve Tara Medical Centre, Airedale Library lunch clubs and residents of Monument Mews Independent Living Scheme. All participants have some association with this avenue of trees.
Each painting has a number, and that corresponds to the list of trees. Numbers 1 to 20 are on the North side of the road, counted from Airedale Library to Airedale Road heading West. Numbers 21 to 36 are on the South side of the road, heading back to Airedale Library.
The trees have been cross-referenced with Wakefield Council’s documentation, and there are some discrepancies, but I’ve stuck with my original list.
