In 2025, I was commissioned by Ground Up in Brurnley to work with the group to create a piece for an exhibition in Gallery OneTwoThree. Over 10 sessions, we created an illuminated chimney depicting scenes from Burnley, including iconic buildings from the town. It also shows images of Burnley’s countryside and waterways.
The group started off by making small individual silk paintings before progressing to larger collaborative pieces.
We chose a chimney to be the form of the sculpture after walking around the town centre and spotting all the chimneys that still dominate the skyline. They are a symbol of Burnley’s industrial heritage. (The first photographs show the sculpture outside my studio, the final 5 are from the exhibition in Burnley.
