Birds on a Wire was created in response to a commission by Horbury Civic Society for exhibitions for their newly created Red Box Gallery, a decommissioned and refurbished British Telecom telephone box.
The installation was inspired by the birds that used to perch on telephone wires that are disappearing due to the march of mobile communications technology. It also reframes a scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds where Tippi Hedren is trapped in a phone box.
All the aluminium wire birds were made by participants at a workshop in Horbury Library.
