On Monday 6th May 2019 I set out to circumnavigate Ferrybridge Power Station. I felt there was some urgency to do this as it’s due for demolition later this year and I wanted to sketch it from different angles, to capture its presence in the landscape before it goes. It’s a complicated structure and because of its unique layout the major components, the cooling towers and 2 chimneys, appear to shift around each other as your viewing angle changes. I knew rain was due to arrive by 12 noon so I was up against the elements.
As it turned out I underestimated the distances involved and only complete a third of the circuit before rain stopped play.
