Learning Disability Nursing Banner

During 2020 I worked on a commission for Health Education England.

The brief was to create something visual to support the national strategy for Leaning Disability Nursing and to celebrate the important role these nurses play in society. Through creative input from people with learning disabilities, Learning Disability Nurses, students and teachers we decided we wanted to create a banner.

Echoing design elements from traditional trade union and society banners, this banner would celebrate the longevity of the profession (as a profession it is over 100 years old) and highlight the many strands that make up and support the nursing role.

We wanted the banner to highlight the work undertaken in the community, so we depicted a landscape that combined rural with urban. The buildings are all from Wakefield and represent a wide number of uses including leisure, education, retail, residential and clinical settings.

The banner was completed with support from artists Helen Thomas and Helen Riddle.
